Insurance protects against the financial risks that are present at all stages of people’s lives and businesses. As students enter adulthood, it’s important for them to understand the everyday workings of insurance. Did you know that the insurance industry is also a stable and growing career path? By 2024, the Ohio insurance industry will need to fill more than 29,000 jobs and is offering a magnitude of career opportunities—right now!

Teaching Insurance (Grades 6-12)
To help you share this information with your students, Ohio Dominican University is offering Teaching Insurance, an online, two-credit, graduate-level course for 6th-12th grade teachers in Ohio.

Participants can complete the 10-module course as quickly as preferred, but must register by the deadline to have sufficient time to complete the modules.

Apply for a scholarship!
We’re offering full scholarships ($500) to educators who teach or plan to teach insurance topics. 

Scholarship Requirements
1. The 6th-12th grade teacher must be instructing an insurance topic(s) in an Ohio classroom, or planning to teach insurance within the current school year.
2. Upon passing the course, the teacher must develop a lesson plan on an insurance topic that will be implemented in the classroom. The lesson plan is to be submitted through email to Amanda Peltier, apeltier@ohioinsurance.org,  by specified dates which are provided in the scholarship notice. The lesson plan must be submitted in Microsoft Word, PDF, or text format.
3. Scholarship applications must be submitted by January 24, 2020.
4. Limit one scholarship per Ohio resident teacher. 

Details
Scholarship applicant will be notified of acceptance/rejection via email within three weeks of application submission. Scholarship recipient will receive $500 reimbursement within four weeks of OII’s receipt of the required lesson plan (deadline dates indicated in the “Requirements” section above) and ODU’s notification that the teacher has passed the course.  Questions?
