2004 US Crashes By Age And Gender

National Safety Council estimates. Drivers in crashes based on reports from 10 state traffic authorities. Total licensed drivers from the Federal Highway Administration; age distribution by National Safety Council.

Note: Percents may not add to total due to rounding
(a) Drivers in fatal crashes per 100,000 licensed drivers in each age group
(b) Drivers in all crashes per 100 licensed drivers in each age group
(c) Less than 0.05%
(d) Rates for drivers under age 16 are substantially overstated due to the high proportion of unlicensed drivers involved

Currently men live an average of six years after they can no longer drive and women nine years, although the gap is expected to increase as people live longer.
